The following is a list of criteria that might be used for selecting
the perfect gas grill: It should be large enough to cook for the whole gang
at a NASCAR race, but must also be very portable for trackside tailgating.
It should be able to grill, fry, roast, bake and stir-fry almost any

The Tailgate Chef Grill was designed in South Africa where the only
thing better than a good backyard braai (South African term for barbecue)
is a braai at a race track - except they race elephants in Africa. CADAC,
a leading manufacturer of outdoor leisure products since 1948, used
all of its experience to design a grill that is as at home cooking a
gourmet NASCAR venue dinner, as it is frying eggs and bacon in the African
Bush.
The Tailgate Chef Grill has a unique set of five interchangeable cooking
surfaces to extend its abilities far beyond what one would expect from
a lesser gas grill. The first step in the system is a chromed pot stand
directly over the burner for boiling or simmering. Now add the 18–inch
grill for barbecue. For baking or frying there is a non-stick flat griddle
that flips over to reveal a ribbed griddle for fat-free frying. And
last but not least there is the skottel. This uniquely South African
cooking surface resembles a flattened wok with a concave non-stick surface
allowing the preparation of a wide range of stir-fried dishes. Add to
that the domed lid for roasting and you have a cooking system that will
handle breakfast, lunch, dinner and beyond.
For convenience the Tailgate Chef can be used with either a standard
20-pound gas tank or a disposable one-pound gas cylinder - especially
if your going to the race for the while week - and has an easy push
button piezoelectric ignition. There are two sets of removable legs,
one for using the grill on a tabletop and a longer set for freestanding
use, which includes a generous tray for condiments. Vitreous enamel
coating means years of rust-free, dependable service and it all breaks
down and fits into a customized driver logo and number carrying bag
for easy transport.
